Screening Behavioral Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
Initial contact is made by internet, phone or in-person. After contacting us, our skilled treatment providers will help determine the most appropriate level of care. For most people, one of the treatment programs below will best serve one’s treatment needs. If a higher level of care is required, referral to a residential/in-patient hospital setting or partial hospital program (day treatment program) will be made.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) (coming soon)
Our Intensive Out Patient Program (IOP) is for people who do not clinically require, or who have already completed, an in-patient program or partial hospital program. Our IOP addresses the complex needs of people with opioid, alcohol and other addictions as well as co-occurring conditions (relevant medical issues or mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, anger management, etc). As the safety of our patients is our primary concern, a medical History and Physical examination as well as relevant medical screenings are provided. The IOP consists of between 9 and 19 hours of treatment depending upon the specific needs of the person.
Treatment at the GHR Recovery Center involves Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), through our OBOT. This usually involves Suboxone as a safe replacement for Opioid Addiction. Medication Assisted Treatments for other addictions are also provided.
At minimum, IOP involves three, 3-hour substance abuse groups per week (addiction process groups, education groups, and relapse prevention groups). Addiction process groups are available not only for substance abuse but also for sex, gambling, eating, pornography and internet addictions.
In addition to our 3 hour IOP groups individuals in our IOP program can also attend, and derive benefit from, the specialty groups offered through our OBOT. These one hour specialty groups address co-occurring mental health disorders. Examples of such groups are anger management groups, stress management groups, trauma groups, depression groups, men’s/women’s groups, mindfulness groups, and expressive therapy groups.
In addition to group therapy within the IOP, GHR also offers individual therapy (1 to 1 support) to address substance abuse and mental health issues. Family therapy is another important component of treatment which helps the person successfully reintegrate into the family system.
As a way of providing “one stop shopping”, Dr. Hill provides psychopharmacological (psychiatric) medication management for mental health disorders (when indicated) in addition to the Suboxone replacement treatment for opioid addiction(or the Medically Assisted Treatment for other types of substance addictions), Dr. Germano provides screenings for STDs and other substance abuse related medical conditions.
Our IOP is a comprehensive program designed to address the unique needs of each person and to significantly reduce the possibility of relapse.
Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT)/Outpatient Treatment Program (OTP)
Our OBOT/OTP program is for individuals who have completed an IOP and are “stepping down” to a less intensive treatment program or for people who are not in need of an Intensive Outpatient Program. An OBOT/OTP consists of one to eight hours of treatment per week depending upon medical need. Like the IOP, our OBOT/OTP utilizes Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for addictions whenever possible. In the case of Opioid Addiction, Suboxone is given as a safe replacement for the opioid addiction. Our OBOT/OTP also consists of some combination of group, individual, and/or family therapy.
Rather than the 3 hour groups offered in the IOP, OBOT/OTP groups are typically one-hour groups. We offer substance abuse groups (addiction process groups, educational groups and relapse prevention groups). We also offer mental health groups as medically indicated by the needs of each person (anger management, stress management, trauma, depression, mindfulness, expressive therapy and men’s/women’s groups).
GHR also offers individual therapy to help the individual deal with specific substance abuse issues and/or mental health issues or concerns. Family therapy, which allows for healing and successful re-integration into the family system is also available.
Psychopharmacological (psychiatric) medication management for co-occurring mental health issues (in addition to substance abuse issues) is provided as medically indicated. History and Physical examinations as well as relevant medical screenings are also offered.
After Care Program (ACP)
Aftercare is perhaps the most crucial component of treatment. The IOP and OBOT/OTP provide the tools and skills necessary for sobriety and staying clean. The aftercare program allows the individual to maintain the gains they have made, to continue to utilize tools they have acquired, and to continue the behaviors and choices necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Aftercare, also known as continuing care, occurs after the IOP or OBOT/OTP is completed. Aftercare provides the ongoing support necessary for maintaining a positive attitude with regard to self, family, friends, and co-workers. Problems in any of these relationships will be addressed in individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, educational groups or any combination of these. Ongoing substance abuse process groups, education groups and relapse prevention groups are also a critical component of aftercare.
At the GHR Recovery Center we put no limit on the amount of continuing care or support that an individual can receive.
Research has shown this ongoing commitment to treatment by both the individual and the providers significantly reduces the probability of relapse.

What is ASAP?
ASAP stands for Alcohol Safety Action Program.
How much does it cost?
At the GHR Center, we are committed to providing treatment at a very reasonable cost (as compared with most other treatment providers). Our fees are as follows:
INITIAL EVALUATION $75
TREATMENT GROUP SESSIONS $75
RANDOM DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREEN (as needed) $15
BREATHALYZER (as needed) $5
How many sessions must I attend?
If the initial evaluation results indicate that you need treatment, you will attend between 15 and 25 group sessions based on your treatment plan.
Who goes to ASAP?
The majority of people going to ASAP (who are then referred to a treatment provider such as The GHR Recovery Center) are sent by the court due to a recent conviction for DUI or an alcohol-related reckless driving charge.
Why do I go to the GHR Center for Addiction Recovery and Treatment?
If you have been directed to come to a treatment provider such as the GHR Recovery Center, it means your ASAP case manager has referred you to us for an evaluation to determine if there is a need for substance abuse treatment.
What happens if there is a need for substance abuse treatment based on the evaluation?
If it is determined, based on the evaluation, that you need substance abuse treatment, the GHR Center will develop a treatment plan for you. The GHR Center will keep your ASAP case manager informed regarding your progress. Treatment must be successfully completed in order to meet all ASAP probationary requirements.
How long are the group sessions?
All group sessions are one hour long.
When is payment due? What type of payment is accepted?
Payment is due before each session. Only cash payments are accepted.
What time are the group sessions?
For your convenience, most of the group sessions occur in the evening. Please call The GHR Center at (757) 333-6992 to find a group that is most convenient to your schedule. Please remember to say you are in the ASAP Program.
Is my information confidential?
ASAP and The GHR Center staff are required to protect the confidentiality of your information in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. You will be asked to complete various consents for release of your information so that The GHR center can speak with your ASAP case manager, probation officer, court etc. on your behalf to give information about your progress in treatment. This is required by ASAP.
